Free online poker is a great, place to begin with as it is free to play and there are no real risks as no real cash is involved. For people looking to learn poker, knowing whether or not they are playing correctly can be tough enough, though it is certainly not impossible. To make life easier, here’s a look at a few ways to know whether or not you’re playing poker the right way.

Ask Other Experts
If you have a buddy that happens to be a good poker player, why not ask him/her to sit in on a free online poker game with you, the next time you play. That way, when you play each hand, you can ask them for their advice and their opinion on whether you played the hand correctly. If you didn’t, ask them what you should have done instead. You can even see your poker hand history to track the history of the hands you played. You can then post this history on various forums online, and politely ask the other members if they wouldn’t mind giving you their honest opinions.

Track Your Win/Loss Ratios
Arguably the most obvious way of knowing whether or not you’re playing free online poker correctly or not is looking at whether you’re winning enough. If you are winning, you are obviously doing something right, providing of course, that you don’t just have beginner’s luck on your side. The best way to keep tabs on this is to make a note of your win/loss ratio on every poker game that you play. If you have a much higher loss ratio compared to your win ratio, this is a sign that something needs to change.

Guage Other Player’s Reactions
The great thing about playing various card games online is the fact that they are very social, and now have chat capabilities so players can communicate with one another as they play. When you play a hand, keep tabs on the chat feature and try to gauge the reactions of the other players. When players play a good hand other members, either those still playing, or simply acting as spectators, will congratulate the player and offer words of encouragement. If however, you play a bad hand, other players may ask you why you did that, or simply point out that you shouldn’t have done that, and should have done something else instead.

Ask yourself if you are having fun – Ultimately, playing free online poker is all about having fun, so if you are having fun, it doesn’t matter about the rules, it doesn’t matter about winning or losing, all that matters is that you are enjoying yourself.
